Nashville Manifesto: A Call For Continued Innovation
We are often asked why we think artists, their skills and their ideas are so important.
We answer with an exercise: imagine the world without art.
The furniture you are sitting on does not exist. Neither does your house, or your office.
Your clothing – unless you are currently wearing fig leaves – is no longer there, either. Oops.
Skyscrapers, cars, the symphony, break dancing, hairstyles, jazz bands, wallpaper, novels, make-up, hip-hop, cathedrals, temples, mosques, marketing material, fashion, religious icons, poetry, websites, architecture, philosophy, history – how many extinct cultures do we know only from what their artisans left behind? Can you think of anything that has been truly untouched by art?
